And here is my updated opinions to see if they've changed since the last time I watched them, Haven't Seen Scream 1-3 for 15 years or so and I last watched Scream 4 in the cinema in 2011 10 years ago (WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS).
Scream = The opening scene is still shocking & brutal and never fails to scare me and can't see this being topped, some nice attacks in the middle (Sidney gets attacked at her house then In School Bathroom),
the film has a creepy and eerie atmosphere throughout with music scores to match which keeps the tension going and few funny one liners throughout, also has a good balance of comedy, horror and self awareness. rating 10/10
Scream 2 = Great opening scene no way near as impactful as the first, I found most of the new characters annoying and some had not enough screen time so I didn't warm to them nor care for them if they died and I HATE that cafeteria scene still,
the film had again a good mix of humour, horror and self awareness also had some great chase/death scenes (cop car, gale at studios) with nice shock death (Randy) which was needed, this sequel a very strong outing. rating 9/10
Scream 3 = Used to prefer this to scream 2 but I now changed my mind, not as good as the first two but had a great opening kill Cotton Weary, I liked the plot of the killer killing the characters off based on the stab 3 script, had a mix of humour and horror but I felt it was imbalanced 70% humour 30% horror (due to columbine) also liked that Sidney didn't have much screen time but what she was in was great,
the film had a few nice locations (conference, coffee shop, stab 3 set, sunrise studios, mansion ETC) and I really liked the back story of Maureen Prescott while the killer leaves a photo of her at each crime scene, unlike Scream 2 I liked all of the new characters Angelina was a bit annoying however, most deaths were one or two stabs but had some great death scenes (Jennifer, Sarah & Cotton were great). rating 9/10
Scream 4 = Gave this 10/10 and used to think it was the best sequel when I saw it first but I just think I was too excited that I was reliving my childhood with a new scream film and first time watching a scream film at the cinema that I overlooked the flaws, but having rewatched it I can now see it's the worst in the franchise,
my main gripes with Scream 4 is that I found it a bit sloppily made and had lack of chase scenes before each death (Rebecca had one slightly), the killer pretty much just turns up kills the person then disappears (Olivia's death was amazing tho),also I noticed this time round how stupid the cops are and how crap the killers reveals were but it still had a lot of great moments and nice mix of humour & horror. rating 9/10
Scream 5 = I hope it has a good balance of likeable characters, horror, humour, self awareness and most importantly scares with some great chase scenes and a nice amount of blood & gore.
