LONG POST AND SPOILERS AHEAD
First of all, I loved the ties to Wes and my mouth hit the floor when Billy Loomis popped up in Sam’s visions. Utterly amazing. Amber’s reveal I saw coming. I liked Richie’s reveal because it was a twist on Derek from S2. Derek was the sweet innocent boyfriend who turned out to be actually innocent but Richie was the opposite of that AND the opposite of Billy Loomis. billy was clearly an asshole but turned out to be the killer. But Richie is very sweet and innocent so you would think he would turn out innocent like Derek but they twisted it. However I still think a bigger twist was needed. Imagine if Tera, the girl in the wheelchair who gets stabbed seven times and her ankle snapped, pulled out a knife in the ambulance at the end and attacked Sam? THAT would have been a proper twist. But I still liked Richie. Loved Mindy and pretty much everybody. Gale had great development and empathy and sorry to go against anyones feels here, but I loved Dewey dying. Perfect way to raise the stakes. I’m confused about what exactly “new” was brought to the table except for Tera living through the movie.
Now what I didn’t like… I’m confused about what exactly super “new” was brought to the table except for Tera living through the movie.
There were also no good drawn-out stalk/chase sequences. Good fight sequences but the good part about the original and the sequel was the tense sometimes 10-15 min long stalk and chase sequences. This movie felt super rushed, and Ghostface pretty much pops in and kills them without a huge struggle. He didn’t feel human because of how fast he got around. Look at the original. It takes almost 15 minutes to finally kill Casey. Scream 1 and 2 found the perfect balance between slow burn and super rushed and fast paced. This film failed to do so. It was super super rushed and there were no good sequences like the film studio in S2 and Casey’s death. The first hospital attack was over in seconds, the only scene that came close for me was Tera in the wheelchair before Dewey dies. Sidney’s development wasn’t really there except for her usual badassery and that she’s a mom now but it was just nice to see her face again. Other than that, it was pretty damn good and I give it a 7/10. Also can someone tell me if Chad dies or lives? i couldn’t tell at the end.
